Wednesday Trailer Takes The Addams Family Back To School For Upcoming Netflix Series
The Addams Family will soon return to television with Netflix's new eight-episode series Wednesday. The new series will focus on the titular Addams family member, along with the trials and tribulations of high school as well as learning how to step out of her mother's intimidating shadow and become her own woman. We got our first look at the family earlier this week with costumes designed by frequent Tim Burton collaborator, Colleen Atwood.
All eight episodes will be directed by Burton, as the series was created by Smallville showrunning duo and Spider-Man 2 writing team of Alfred Gough and Miles Millar, Wednesday looks like it still brings that macabre mayhem and dark humor that the Addamses are known for. Check out the trailer below.
In the trailer, you can see we finally have our first look at Thing, the handy helper around the house, and Gwendoline Christie as Larissa Weems, principal of Nevermore Academy and former school rival of Morticia at Nevermore Academy. There is a minor retcon here as Gomez states he met Morticia at Nevermore, when he met her in early adulthood and was originally set up with her sister, Ophelia.
With this series coming to Netflix, it will also be the first time in decades that new visions of the Addams Family and the Munsters will be on TV once again. Rob Zombie's The Munsters will hit Netflix in September, just in time for Halloween. While Zombie's interpretation of the Munsters dives heavily into the camp and mod colors of the 1960s, Burton's Wednesday keeps the classic gothic vibe that was captured in both the live-action movies as well as Charles Addam's original comic strips.
